Software maintenance and support

Updates, backups, monitoring and a direct contact: we make sure your applications and servers run reliably – year after year.

So that your software keeps running reliably after go-live

Software is never quite finished. Security updates are released for frameworks and libraries, operating systems reach the end of their support, certificates expire and the volume of data grows. Putting off maintenance quietly accumulates risk – until an outage or a security vulnerability brings it to light.

We take over the ongoing support of your applications and the infrastructure behind them: updates, backups, monitoring and help when something does not work. This applies to software we developed ourselves as well as to systems we take over from others.

What maintenance and support include

Monitoring and alerting. Ideally, we spot errors and outages before your users notice them. We run error monitoring for this on our own infrastructure.

Regular updates. Security patches for operating systems, frameworks and libraries – and planned version upgrades before a platform becomes outdated.

Backups and recovery. Regular data backups and a clear plan for restoring the application and data in an emergency.

Technical support. A direct contact who knows your systems – via remote support or on site if needed.

Why regular maintenance costs less than postponed maintenance

Postponed updates do not disappear, they pile up. The further you fall behind the current version, the more complex and risky the jump becomes. Small, regular steps, on the other hand, keep an application changeable for the long term – and spare you the expensive major project when an update can no longer be put off.

Then there is regulation: since December 6, 2025, Germany's NIS2 Implementation Act (NIS2-Umsetzungsgesetz) has been in force. It requires the companies it covers to take security measures, which include handling vulnerabilities in their IT systems. What this means for legacy systems is explained in our article Refactoring or rewrite?

From our projects

For the Momenth health centre, we are the point of contact for all IT questions across three locations – remotely or on site. We roll out updates and security patches in the background without interrupting the team's work. For in-house tools and a workflow automation platform such as n8n, we provide hosting, monitoring and backups.

At Stenger, we run the backend of the service app, look after the server that connects it to the merchandise management system, and take care of office IT, the network and Microsoft 365. We have kept the event photo platform from PicturePartners technically up to date since 2015.

How we start looking after your systems

  1. Inventory of the application, servers and pending updates
  2. Set up or review monitoring and backups
  3. Install overdue updates and eliminate risks
  4. Ongoing support with a direct contact

Frequently asked questions about software maintenance and support

What does software maintenance include?

Maintenance mainly covers security updates for the operating system, frameworks and libraries, planned version upgrades, regular backups, monitoring of errors and availability, and renewing certificates. On top of that comes support when users report a problem. Minor adjustments and new features can be agreed in addition.

Do you also maintain software you did not develop?

Yes. At the start, we analyse the code, dependencies and servers to assess the state of the application and any open risks. If the software is badly outdated, we suggest modernising it step by step before ongoing maintenance begins.

How often are updates installed?

We install security updates promptly as soon as they are relevant to your systems. We plan larger version upgrades of frameworks or operating systems with you and test them before they go into production. This keeps the application up to date without updates disrupting day-to-day work.

How much does software maintenance cost?

That depends on the size and age of the application, the infrastructure and the availability requirements. Our guide to ongoing software costs explains which running items to expect and how to plan for them realistically. After a short inventory, we prepare a specific quote for your systems.

Do you also look after office IT and workstations?

Yes. For companies such as Momenth and Stenger, we take care not only of the applications but also of workstations, the network, printers and Microsoft 365. Find out more on our IT service provider in Stuttgart page.
