Custom web application development
Browser-based software that fits your business
A web application is software that runs in the browser: no installation, on any device and always up to date. Unlike a website, it does more than inform – it maps your processes, from orders and jobs to approvals and reports. For many businesses, it is the most direct way to replace spreadsheets, endless email threads and isolated tools with a seamless digital process.
We develop web applications where off-the-shelf software does not fit, or only with costly customisation. Whether that applies to you is something we clarify honestly before the project starts – sometimes the better answer is a standard product with a good interface. How to tell the difference is explained in our article Off-the-shelf vs. custom software.
Typical web applications we develop
Customer and partner portals. Orders, delivery status, invoices and complaints in one place – with data taken directly from your ERP via a clean interface.
Internal business applications. Order management, scheduling, inspection reports or approvals that are currently stuck in spreadsheets and inboxes.
Platforms and SaaS products. Subscription-based applications with roles and permissions – like our own products Inventary and Stundenplan-Digital, which we develop and operate ourselves.
The admin side of an app. The web interface your office uses to manage the jobs, reports and master data of a mobile app.
Proven technology built to last
Our standard stack is Ruby on Rails for the back end and business logic, PostgreSQL as the database, and React with TypeScript wherever an interface needs to be particularly interactive. We have used these tools in production for years – in client projects as well as in our own products.
A web application is not finished at go-live: it is extended over many years. That only works if the code stays easy to understand and automated tests safeguard every change. If your project has different requirements, we choose the technology to fit the problem – not the other way round.
From our projects
Since 2015, we have operated and developed the ClicClic event photo platform for PicturePartners, which delivers photos to guests while the event is still going on. For the Stuttgart pump specialist Stenger, we built the back end with an admin interface in which the office processes the service reports from the technician app before they are passed on to the ERP system.
How much does a web application cost?
Based on our cost model, a simple internal tool costs about €16,500–29,000, a customer portal with ERP integration €45,000–81,000 and a platform or SaaS solution €115,000–210,000 – all net, including project management and quality assurance.
What drives the price is explained in detail in our guide How much does a web application cost?. For an estimate for your specific project, the project cost calculator takes just a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions about web applications
What is the difference between a web application and a website?
A website informs: it presents a company, its products and its contacts. A web application is something you work with: users sign in, enter and edit data and trigger processes. The boundary is fluid – a customer area on a website is already a small web application.
Web application or app – which is right for us?
A web application runs on every device, without an app store and without installation. A native app pays off when the camera, offline use or push notifications are at the heart of it. Often the answer is both: a web application for the office and an app for use on the go, both accessing the same back end.
How long does it take to develop a web application?
That depends mainly on the scope. A manageable internal tool is often in productive use after just a few weeks, while an extensive platform is built in stages over several months. We plan so that you receive a first usable version early on and can steer further development based on real experience.
Where is the web application hosted?
If you wish, we take care of operations on servers in Germany – including updates, backups and monitoring. Alternatively, we set up the application in your existing infrastructure or cloud environment.
Do you also take over existing web applications?
Yes. We analyse the existing code, close security gaps and bring frameworks up to current versions – without jeopardising ongoing operations. Find out more on our page about modernising legacy systems.
